The Old Courthouse
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property in the Daniel Pratt Historic District, the old courthouse stands as a silent sentiel of bygone years. Its builder, George L. Smith, was a prominent Prattvillan; he owned and lived in the house at 102 East Main Street, now the Prattaugan Museum. The building's Court Street side was altered before 1924 by the addition of a service station. The service station was later converted into a Chevrolet dealership and after it moved, a liquor store occupied the building. Although it was considered a "most magnificent structure" in it heyday, it served only around thirty-seven years. In 1907 the present courthouse was completed and the old one rapidly became less "magnificent."
