Placed on the Alabama Register in 1978, the old water tower is located 300 feet East of the Daniel Pratt Cemetery in Prattville. It is constructed of riveted boiler plate with a cone shaped boiler plate top.
No documentation exists on the builder of the tank or its date of construction. It is believed that construction was around 1900. The tank sits on a masonry foundation which has a scuttle hole on its East side. Under the tank inside the foundation is a valve which serves as the well cap.
The tank has hundreds of rust holes. It serves as an example of the forethought given to water shortages of a bygone era.
